Pairing motion sensor + Styrbar remote + Tradfri kit

Solved Go to answer

Good evening!  👋 I'm really hoping someone can help with my current set up. I recently bought a TRADFRI LED kit which comes with 3x TRADFRI bulbs and 1x Styrbar remote. I also bought a motion sensor. All I want to do, is have the bulbs turn on when I walk in the walk in wardrobe. This was successful. BUT when I go to ALSO connect the Styrbar remote - it replaces the motion sensor? I wouldn't be so bothered, but the motion sensor pairs on a 'yellow' light setting - and I'd like it to be white?

I know this can work, as I've friends who have motion sensors + Styrbar remotes controlling one room.

Please help - I've tried resetting everything, pairing Syrbar first, then motion sensor and vice versa. But I just can't seem to get it to work? Any suggestions? And am I missing something?

Hi  @Munny23

not 100% sure and I can't test it right now, but I believe you should first pair the Styrbar with the bulbs and then the motion sensor with the Styrbar (not with the bulbs).

Hold Styrbar and motion sensor together and press both pairing buttons for about 10 seconds (the Styrbar first) until they flicker. That should do it.

@Heiko thank you so much for replying.

Unfortunately- this did not work, I did as you said and all that ended up happening was the Styrbar, then unpaired from the bulbs and the bulbs just stayed on.

I tried resetting the bulbs by flicking the power on and off 3 times and pairing the remote, from scratch. Then pairing the motion sensor to the remote. Being honest the remote seems to have a hard time “flashing” to show confirmation and is intermittently working.

Any other thoughts? Could this have anything to do with the remote and bulbs coming as a pack? As I have a set up in the hallway, with a motion sensor and Styrbar remote, and that works perfectly… but this doesn’t? The only thing g I can think that is different is that I bought each element individually? Rather than in a “pack”.

Thanks again for replying.

Unfortunately - I tried this, and it doesn’t work. And instea

Hej  @Munny23, thank you for your post  😊 If you directly pair the bulbs with a steering device, the second steering device will remove the first one. In order to have both steering devices directly paired with the bulbs, you need to "clone" the information from the already paired steering device/remote with a new/blank steering device/remote/motion sensor. I hope this makes sense and helps you fix your issue.

Tack!

Kieran

Hi  @Munny23

it's unlikely that the reason for this fail is, that it's been bought as a set. Once you've made a reset with one of the devices, this marriage is history...

When you say (and with Kierans words in mind) "Styrbar unpaired from the bulbs and the bulbs just stayed on", that sounds like the motion sensor has now been paired with the bulb, rather than "cloned" with the Styrbar...

I would suggest to try that all once more, but step away from the bulb a few meters for the cloning procedure.

If that all doesn't help and you probably think of installing more smart lights in your home, you should perhaps consider to buy a Dirigera hub, which makes such installations much more easy and flexible.

Good luck and regards from Heiko

@Kieran  @Heiko thank you both! In the end, doing this again - but RESETTING the motion sensor first, worked. Thank you 😊
