After a month of leaks a major revamp is set to arrive alongside an entirely new Ikea Home Smart app coming this October.
The new smart home promises to make connected devices more interoperable, flexible, and private, no matter if you purchased them from the likes of Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, or any of the long list of companies already signed up.
What is the main difference between TRÅDFRI & DIRIGERA?
One of the main differences is that DIRIGERA is built to handle more product segments than TRÅDFRI and has a new type of architecture that enables this. It is also faster, is future proof when it comes to the technology used and can onboard more products.
The DIRIGERA hub can do everything that the TRÅDFRI gateway can do, and more. It connects to, and steers, Zigbee products as the TRÅDFRI gateway does, but it can also steer Matter products in the future. You will also be able connect to your router with Wi-Fi and do not have to use your ethernet cable, something that the TRÅDFRI gateway cannot. This function will be launched at a later stage.
The DIRIGERA hub has support for all products that can be onboarded on the TRÅDFRI gateway, and many more to come. You will also be able to onboard more devices (the limit on TRÅDFRI gateway is 50, DIRIGERA 100) and have many more favourites and groups.
Another difference is through the new IKEA Home smart app will be convenient, easy to navigate, and user-friendly to lower the threshold for people looking into setting up a smart home. On top of that, it will make connecting devices to the DIRIGERA hub significantly easier. With the new DIRIGERA hub for smart products, users will be able to both onboard all IKEA smart products and other products that support Matter to the same system and steer them individually, in sets or in groups in the new IKEA Home smart app. different products connected to the system and offers a wide variety of personalisation options for the smart home.
